Launch!

Streamlined is out!

A demo is also available (for free of course), so check out the store's page!

Demo:
- 1 car
- 1 track

Full version:
- 3 cars
- 3 tracks

So this time this is not really a devlog, as the game is officially out. Since my last update I created 2 more tracks and added sound. Those features made it to the final game while the demo stayed the same.

Below is the game's description where I explained the gameplay and design choices I made.

A focus on inertia, momentum and vector-based physics
Streamlined is a futuristic racer where you control an anti-gravity car. When figuring out what would be its core gameplay, I decided to put an emphasis on momentum and inertia. As the car builds momentum and you need to negotiate a turn,  you have to take into account your ship’s inertia, choose the right moment to steer, and use the right amount of thrust. You can’t just rely on your reflexes and steer at the last moment, otherwise, you will end up not taking an optimal trajectory, or worse: crashing into a wall.

Opening the left or right panel not only slows the car down but also assists in steering as it rotates the car. Normal steering is, as expected, mapped to the left joystick.

I haven’t played all the hovercraft/anti-gravity/futuristic racing games on the market. However I tried to bring something new to the table: gameplay focused on momentum and inertia, which, in my experience at least, don’t play a major role in the Wipeouts and F-zeros of the world.

3 cars, 3 tracks,1 game mode: Time attack
There are 3 different cars, with 3 different playstyles: high speed, excellent maneuverability, and a balance of speed and maneuverability.

Microsoft game controller only
For now, it is only possible to play with a Microsoft controller. This allows for precise controls, not in general but for that game specifically. Indeed, braking with the triggers, which are analog, allows player precise controls to fine-tune their approach when making a turn. I haven’t thought of a way to reach this granular level of controls with a keyboard and mouse control scheme. However, if you have suggestions of your own on how to achieve it, do let me know.

I hope you’ll enjoy my game. Also, feel free to share your feedback on the game’s page on itch.io or by messaging me on Twitter @willy_game_dev.
